Producer, rapper, and songwriter Christopher B. Coffman, also known as "Devunta9000", was born on the sixth of August in the small rural town of Richmond, Texas. He was the second of two children born to Russell and Pearlene Coffman. His mother a talented hair stylist and his father, an educator and novice inventor raised him to think freely, alongside his older brother Shaun B. Coffman. His brother, a visual artist, influenced primarily by black culture aided in his evolution. With so much creative energy within his family Christopher was innately bound to become infatuated with some type of art form.
Growing up in a small town Chris was a quiet and introverted child. He often times stayed to himself after his brother left too attended college; he was essentially an only child for six years. In elementary school, at the age of 8, Chris joined the 4-H Organization where he raised and showed many types of animals. While in middle school he joined the choir, and during those years he discovered his passion. He enjoyed and loved music. Chris decided then that he wanted to become not only an entertainer but have a creative role in the production of music. In High School he participated in many activities discovering many new talents. Basketball was one of the activities he showed great promise and talent in, but he soon lost interest in the sport. Chris continued to play throughout his junior year, but decided not to return back to the court his senior year. He realized that his heart and mind should be focused on his passion for music. After explaining this to his mother, the fact that he wanted to pursue music as a career, she in turn purchased him an Audio Recording Program which would ultimately change his life. Chris immediately began to hone his craft by teaching himself how to record and mix music.
Soon after, he began to create the first of many mix-tapes. With only the basic tools of the trade, a computer, headset, microphone and a small recording booth in his bedroom, he would write lyrics during choir class and record after school. Upon graduating High School Chris joined a small underground Rap group which eventually disbanded due to management issues. Although the group was disbanded the experience proved to be invaluable. He gained creditability and exposure. He had become known for the use of unique similes, metaphors, and analogies along with his ability to write, produce, and format music. He then spent a short stint ghost writing top line lyrics for underground artists. After that experience he decided to further his education in music by enrolling in the Media Tech Institution for Audio Engineering. While in school he added instrumental production and a profound understanding of the music industry to his repertoire. Christopher B. Coffman had truly become a triple threat; songwriter, producer, and rapper. His evolution into the artist we now know as “Devunta9000” was complete.
Currently, Devunta9000 is working on his debut album. He is confident that this album is destined to make a major impact on Hip Hop culture and the music industry at large. With his ability to intermingle hardcore hip-hop, sensual rhythm &blues, and diverse lyricism his style can only be described as eclectic. There is an evolution happening within the music industry that will lead to a revolutionary new style of music, and “Devunta9000” will be at the forefront of this new age of music.
